Made in the UK
What do the Queen and Ramon have in common? We have both spent the last 70 years serving Britain.
As we hit our 70th anniversary last year, Ramon celebrated by sharing some of our corporate history with you. This year marks the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II and we thought it would be nice to do similar again.
We take great pride in our UK manufacturing heritage and hold much admiration for our longest reigning monarch. As a tribute we have drawn up some parallels and take a trip down memory lane.
The 1950s
Great Britain welcomed a new monarch, Queen Elizabeth II in early 1952. Meanwhile, Ramon had just started production of the traditional stockinette cloths we know today. Ramon’s trade favourite 407 stockinette cloths are made from sustainable regenerated yarn. Re-spun and turned into a high quality cleaning cloth at Ramon’s headquarters in Leicester for the last 70 years.
Annus Horribilis
40 years into her reign Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 40th anniversary in 1992. She called it “Annus Horribilis” (according to a speech she gave that November) as Charles and Diana separated, while Princess Anne and her husband, Mark Phillips, divorced.
However, Ramon welcomed a positive and fruitful year with the continuing diversification of its cleaning range. The arrival of the first cotton mop machine into our Leicester factory, has been a great success for the last 30 years. We now offer a large range of mops in different weights, sizes and yarns. As members of the CHSA mop accreditation scheme we guarantee a consistent weight of cotton mop, every time. So you can be assured your customers are receiving exactly what they expect.
A New Millennium
2002 was the year we celebrated the Queens 2nd jubilee and it was golden! People all over the world held street parties, garden parties and other events to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. The gardens of Buckingham Palace were used for public concerts for the first time ever during the Golden Jubilee Central Weekend.
Ramon saw prolific changes in 2002. After acquiring DTK just a few years prior and offering a more comprehensive range of goods within the hygiene and janitorial market, The company updated its name to ‘Ramon Hygiene Products’ to better reflect the broader product range.
Family Expansions
In 2015 The Queen welcomes her 5th Great Grandchild, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, 4th in line to the throne. As the royal family expanded so did Ramon Hygiene Products as we became part of Empress Garland Group. The acquisition expanded Ramon’s portfolio of UK Manufactured cleaning products. Now including UK made sponge scourers, scouring pads and food safe chemical bonded all purpose cloths in a variety of colours.
Platinum Jubilee Weekend
This weekend we celebrate our longest-reigning monarch. She remains a consistent and stable presence as head of state and has done a fantastic job over the past 70 years.
Ramon Hygiene Products salutes you your majesty and we wish everyone a fantastic Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend!
